Congress to Cap Baggage Fees

Could it be true? Wow, I hope so. This from a political blog called “The Hill”. Check out this post that suggests a lawmaker has asked that the airlines start to be partially responsible for the rising prices that they have inflicted on all us poor travelers. Like most politics, there is, well, politics involved. Imagine that. And I for one wouldn’t even suggest that it would happen but just that the argument has been raised is a positive move in itself. The airports are pushing for a doubling of the facility fee that has been at $4.50 for the last 15 years. The airlines, in their mercy, have resisted saying that we already get charged enough. Bless their hearts. If anyone should know how much we’re being charged with fees, it would certainly be the airlines. So, this lawmaker has retaliated a bit and put the argument back on the airlines by saying and I quote, “What’s good for the goose, is good for the gander” But, with politics there’s always more and it’s usually an underlying issue and that is that the Senator, Mica, has said that he is for facility upgrades. So what we may be seeing here is a reduction in baggage fees, slightly of course, with an increase in facility fees. So what does that mean for us? Basically nothing. But for Mica, more votes and a showing of commitment to his constituents. Yeah right! Anyways, every little bit would help, and let’s hope they have a generous bone in their body and stay out of my wallet for just a minute.
